That is to pick a room that all 4 members of the group is very much familiar with. We have thought that familiarity with the room that we are making the design is indeed a significant factor that must be considered., since, if we know more or less how the room looks like, it would be a bit easier for us to make the most appropriate design that should be applied on it. After screening the list of all the rooms that are awaiting to be given a new network design, the group came up with this decision of picking IT 1. The room is no longer foreign to us. It actually used to be our room for several times ever since we set our foot in this university. We, basically, know how computers are distributed in it, where all the plugs are located, how huge the room is and lastly how many computers can it occupy. IT 1 has 26 workstations and until now it is not being networked. With that, we are hoping that we've got a right choice and be able to give the room a network design that it truly deserve.

Coming up with a good network design for IT1 was not that easy, to achieve our goal of giving it a design it highly needed, we needed to exert much time and effort and plan out carefully on how we could make the design more appropriate for the room operations. During our planning stage we decided to have one more glance at the room and screen it thoroughly. We did it in order for us to easily visualize how our design is gonna be. We take all the necessary measurements that we will probably need to assure that most of the things that will appear in the design it will come up with a truthful and reliable outcome. We also needed to put a couple of things into consideration, such as the type and positioning of the connectivity device, location of the cables, type and category of the cables we are going to use.

Peer-to-peer is the kind of network that we choose to use in this design. The major reason is that servers are only practically used in big networks. At first we decided to use a hub for the connectivity device because it is cheap and think that it is the one that will practically to use.and all the designs that we studied use this device. But we change our mind, instead we use switch. We have learned that it is less in broadcasting the data in the network. Hubs has higher collision so there may be have a tendency that the data sent was not going to its destination or data loss.

We have considered all of these things so that the design won't just be good to look at but could also cater the requirements of the room and perform at the rate it is expected to do so. hopefully the design we already come up with will work well enough for the room activities in case it would be implemented.

LAN Diagram of IT1

Bird's Eye View
<img style="cursor: pointer; The group instantly had this idea that the room won’t need a fiber-optic cable or even a shielded-twisted pair cable. The room performs a way too few operations as compared to a huge company which are probably the only ones that are in need of using fiber-optic cable. There is also no need of using a shielded-twisted pair cable simply because there is not going to be a wire which would have to go out of the room or might be exposed and be at great chances of being damaged. We have decided to just use an unshielded-twisted pair cable and just provide plastic molding covers to still have an assurance that the cables wont easily be damaged in case of any unnecessary incidents. The only matter we tackled thoroughly is what category of UTP cable we should use. We had a hard time choosing from CAT 5 and CAT 5e UTP cable because both categories of UTP cable matches the transmission rate capabilities of the NIC used by every workstation in the room. After a few minutes of discussion, we have agreed to use a CAT 5e cable which is the one at higher transmission rate. CAT 5e cable, we think, would be the right choice because when you come to think of it, with its transmission rate, it’s a better choice since its price and the price of CAT 5 cable is almost similar. In most cases CAT 5e cable is actually a few pesos more expensive than CAT 5 cable. For us it’s just at a reasonable price and using this category of UTP cable, we think, would help the network perform a lot better. We have also considered placing the wires on the floor and not on the ceiling.
